FCEF welcomes business outsourcing council membership
The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Council of Fiji now has the backing of the Fiji’s largest employer organisation to help support its work in raising the profile of Fiji’s outsourcing services potential, locally and abroad.
This after the BPO Council was officially welcomed as the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation’s (FCEF) 10th council member in Suva today.
The official announcement was made at the BPO Council’s first meeting of 2021 which was hosted at the FCEF office.
In acknowledging the Council’s membership, FCEF Chief Executive Officer, Kameli Batiweti said it was a proud moment for the Employer’s Federation as Fiji’s BPO industry has the ability to make a significant positive contribution to Fiji’s economy.
“We note the immense potential of Fiji’s outsourcing industry as a driver of future economic growth especially as the demand for outsourcing services from near-shore markets continues to grow,” said Mr. Batiweti.
“FCEF really looks forward to working with the BPO Council of Fiji in support of these efforts and in doing so, help create more employment opportunities for Fijians,” he added.
Fiji’s BPO industry currently employs around 4,000 people, and the BPO Council of Fiji has a vision of growing the sector to provide 10,000 local jobs in the next five years.
According to the BPO Council of Fiji Chairperson, Carol Watkins, the backing of FCEF affords the council a stronger voice and valuable support in their engagement with stakeholders.
“We are delighted to join the FCEF body which has over 300 members. While the BPO Council is making progress in raising the profile of Fiji as an outsourcing destination, becoming a member of FCEF places us in a much stronger position to assist our own members with growing their businesses,” Ms. Watkins said.
“We would also like to acknowledge the support of the Ministry of Commerce, Trade , Tourism & Transport, as well as the Australia’s Market Development Facility who have partnered with us on a number of initiatives to establish the council’s presence and promote the Industry, including helping to facilitate our early discussions with FCEF,” Ms. Watkins added.
The BPO Council of Fiji was established in 2019 and currently has 15 members which specialise in Voice Technology, Call Centre Operations, Back Office Operations, Airline Reservations, Worldwide Freight Shipping, Building and Infrastructure, Government, Insurance, Banking and Finance, Debt Collection, Virtual Human Resource and Telecommunication.
