Information Session with Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office
The Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation hosted a meeting for its members yesterday to address their concerns regarding Immigration related issues with the PS of the Prime Minister’s Office. Some Members attended in person while others dialed in using a webinar.
Some of the key points that the PS discussed were:
- A 21 days turnaround time for the processing of Work Permit Applications;
- A need to conduct a Labor Demand Study to really determine which skills were lacking in Fiji that resulted in the hiring of Expatriates;
- There was a call to the local Universities to review their curriculum to ensure that these Universities were producing University Graduates that were filling the right skill sets;
- The Immigration Department was reviewing its processes with a view to providing a new look Immigration Department;
There were some robust discussions, which, at the end of the meeting, all the members understood the requirements and were satisfied with the outcomes of the meeting.
