Be part of the Council to have your voices heard
Businesses should be part of the council and should take advantage of such a platform to share their ideas and issues.
The Chair for the Manufacturing Trade and Export Council Jeetender Rai is encouraging business that have not join the council yet to take this opportunity and come on board.
“The more members participate, the bigger the voice, the stronger we are.
“Join as a member of the manufacturing trade and export council as it allows you to participate and bring your ideas to the table giving you a stronger platform to advocate,” said Mr Rai.
He further explained that the council is a representative of all manufactures in Fiji and people who export overseas.
The Council Chair stated that this is a forum people can use to highlight problems, promote ideas which they can then consolidate and take to other councils through the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation to lobby to government.
Mr Rai stressed that this year, their main focus will be to have continued dialogue with government regarding duty protection for local manufactures.
He adds that they are also looking at having members participate in FCEF councils’ budget submissions for the new year.
2020 being a challenging year, given the global pandemic, things got even tougher for the Manufacturing Trade and Export Council as a lot of their local manufactures got affected.
“The biggest challenge was understanding and implementing the duty reductions that came through the budget process.
“The duty reductions affected a lot of local manufactures so that was the biggest challenge at that time as all businesses were trying to maintain business and keep all their staff employed,” said Mr Rai.
