FCEF Hosts Talanoa Session with Ministry of Employment
On Wednesday 3oth January, the FCEF hosted a talanoa session between its members and the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial relations.
The aim of the organised meet was for members to meet the Minister and also clarify issues with regards to the amendments to the Employment Relations Act 2018. The Director Labour Standards Mr. Atish Kumar addressed the members of the FCEF that attended the talanoa session, giving an overview of the amendments.
Over 150 private sector representatives attended the session at Tanoa Plaza in Suva where a lot of discussions were raised around the issues of the new leave provisions. Most employers felt that there were a lot of grey areas around the provisions and sought clarification from the ministry representatives at the talanoa session.
The Accident Compensation Act was also a hot topic at the talanoa session, the talanoa session achieved its objectives and allowed a free flowing conversation between the representatives from the Ministry and Private Sector.
Through discussion held at the session the FCEF will be hosting a workshop in Suva and the West on the 13th and 15th of February where the Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji Chief Executive Officer Mr Parvez Akbar will guest speaker.
The Federation continues to believe that consultation and dialogue between key stakeholder like Government and the Private Sector is crucial for growth and economic development.
