Young Entrepreneurs Council 2019 – 2021 Strategic Planning Review
Through the support from Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation and International Labour Organisation the Young Entrepreneurs Council (YEC) took on the task to formulate its 2019-2021 Strategic Plan on the 6th & 7th April at Outrigger in Sigatoka.
A total of 10 YEC members (different industry backgrounds) took time out of their business and family activities towards consultations conducted by the team from FCEF. The two-day workshop looked at the importance and a need for having a strategic direction for the new council together with clearly identifying its Vision, Mission and Objectives while still aligned to FCEF mandates.
Also present was the Manager Fiji Enterprise Engine Mr. Savenaca Baro who is running the Market Development Facility & FCEF accelerator program for young businesses which includes YEC members in its 2019 cohort. Key outcomes for the workshop was around understanding the purpose of YEC and what activities will define the council in the future. Some of these where, but not limited to, understanding and mapping out the entrepreneurial ego-system and identifying the bottlenecks that affect businesses. Finding solutions to these issues to create a conducive ego-system. Another important objective is to create entrepreneurial education for the next generation so they can apply entrepreneurial thinking in anything they endeavor into. Lastly YEC is a technical evidence-based Council therefore the need to collection of relevant data to influence change at policy level was identified as the way forward for any change. The 2019-2021 YEC Strategic Plan has been drafted and is being reviewed by YEC members before submission to FCEF Board approval.
