Employment Relations Advisory Board (ERAB)

The Employment Relations Advisory Board (ERAB) is a tripartite body in Fiji that provides perspectives, advice, and balanced considerations on employment-related laws and policies.

ERAB brings together representatives from government, employers, and workers to ensure that employment legislation and policy development are informed by practical experience, evidence, and social dialogue. Through this tripartite approach, ERAB supports the development of fair, balanced, and workable outcomes for Fiji’s labour market, providing advice on employment-related matters and facilitate constructive dialogue between social partners on key labour and workplace issues, including labour law reform and wage reviews.

Composition

ERAB is composed of representatives from:

  • Government
  • Employers – which includes members of the Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation (FCEF)
  • Workers – representatives of the Fiji Trades Union Congress (FTUC)

Functions

  • Considers and advises the Minister responsible for employment on employment policy and related matters
  • Inquires into and reports on
    employment issues referred to it by the Minister
  • Assists in the development of employment-related regulations, codes of practice, and guidance materials
  • Facilitates social dialogue on
    key issues such as labour law reform and minimum wage reviews

Establishment

ERAB was reconstituted in 2023 to align with International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 144 on Tripartite Consultation, promoting inclusive, transparent, and evidence-based decision-making.
